Acupressure, reflexology, massage, EFT, and Reiki are easy to perform on yourself. However, if you would like more assistance, see a practitioner for any of these modalities. Acupuncture is effective at alleviating a wide range of uterine imbalances, such as hot flashes, PMS, and pelvic pain. A few sessions of massage, acupressure, acupuncture, or Reiki from a trained therapist have been demonstrated to promote uterine healing and can be a great noninvasive way to improve PMS, hot flashes, or pain from endometriosis and fibroids. Gentle forms of energy work such as Reiki and acupressure from a trained practitioner with experience working with women’s healing can be particularly beneficial for women who have experienced sexual trauma or abuse.

Women experiencing chronic uterine and pelvic pain may also benefit from the support of a physical therapist or chiropractor to help heal muscle and nerve damage while they bring their bodies into alignment and increase activity levels. Chiropractic treatments combining spinal adjustments and soft tissue therapy improved PMS symptoms for women in Australia.5 In the United States, physical therapy techniques have been shown to reduce endometriosis and pelvic pain.6 In some cases they can also reverse infertility for women with tubal obstructions and pelvic scarring, including those with endometriosis.

I have interviewed a number of women who feel that chiropractic treatments, physical therapy, or other types of manual bodywork have helped them heal PMS, hot flashes, and infertility. If you have fibroids, endometriosis, debilitating menstrual pain, or menopausal symptoms, consider seeing a physical therapist for a complete musculoskeletal evaluation or having chiropractic treatments. I refer clients who are concerned about the physicality of traditional chiropractic adjustments to chiropractors who restore spinal structure and nervous system function by balancing the body’s energy. Chiropractors who use Network, Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique (BEST), or biocranial techniques align the spine and the nerves throughout the body with gentle manipulations that do not involve forceful work on the spine or joints.

In the United States, a few forms of complementary healing such as acupuncture are beginning to be covered by some insurance plans, but in most instances you will have to pay out of pocket for mind-body treatments. This can seem like a big expense. However, making this investment in your health and healing may actually save you money in the long run. Often holistic health treatments are less expensive than co-pays for surgery, missed work, some prescription medicines commonly used for uterine issues, and most infertility treatments. There are of course no guaranteed results, but for many women investing in treatments with a qualified healer is well worth it.
